As a new ASM (Assistant Scout Master) 30 years ago. I was doing the best I knew, which at the time was really just showing up, and doing whatever was asked of me. There was someone in the unit that nominated me for the Utah Lakes District 2nd Miler Award. I distinctly remember that that award changed my life in Scouting. It said to me that someone in the unit recognized what I was trying to do, and appreciated me. And that the District was willing to recognize me with the award. It meant the world to me.
Committees!!! Find out the history of your Scout Leaders. Document their service record, and their adult award history and make sure they are being recognized for the service they give. There are BSA awards they can be received, and other ways you can recognize them. Take care of your unit leaders!!
